Ignition switch

Post by Vcbotto »

Hey gang. Can anyone help me with changing an ignition switch? I got it out and it seems like I need to fit the piece the key goes in into the switch. Is the switch or a part of the switch supposed to turn with the key. I'm a car novice so I apologize for dumb questions but it's got me confused. Thanks for the help!

Let me add by saying I did not use the paper clip trick to get the old switch out because I didn't read the forums first. Needless to say I eventually figured out I needed to remove the bezel to get the old switch out. Once getting the old switch out I took the back off and the ignition tumbler came out. Did I screw up big time? Or can I get the tumbler back in the new switch?? :?

That is strange. Even with disassembling the back of the switch, the lock cylinder should not have come out, it is locked into the aluminum casting itself, only releasing with the paperclip trick.

It's likely worn out. If so you can buy just the new ignition lock cylinder at a parts store it will come with 2 keys.
