I'm new to the site, but I've been reading lots of posts on this topic and I'm trying to troubleshoot my non-functioning instrument panel on my 72 F-250.
Here is what I know:
None of my gauges work correctly and the only gauge that moves at all is the oil pressure gauge that never goes more than 25% of the way up the gauge and then only for a little while when first starting the truck.
My IPVR is working correctly since I read 5-6 volts both at the IPVR and at the wire at the temperature and oil sending units (a pulsing signal).
When I ground the temperature gauge sending unit wire directly as advised by some previous posts, the gauge moves off the C, but never makes it into the normal range.
My initial thought is that something is wrong with the gauge in the panel, but for all of them to be broken? And what causes them to 'move' but not move enough when getting the full voltage required. That seems odd. I'm all ears if anyone has any advice!
Thanks for the help!

Re: Gauges not working
Welcome to the site. Introduce yourself and show us some photos.
Check for continuity from the sending units to the IPVR.
If the gauges received 12 vdc, they could be damaged.
Temperature of the engine often is cool.
What is the oil pressure using a mechanical gauge?
Does the fuel gauge work?
The charge indicators are known for not moving.
IPVR should pulse as it is a electro-mechanical.

Re: Gauges not working
Thanks for the reply! My name is Sam and I live in Washington State. I've had my 72 F250 for about 8 or 9 years and it has always been my around town rig for my various home improvement projects. I'm getting the bug to make it into a better rig for driving to work, or to take on short distance camping trips or other things. It only has two working gauges - the speedometer and an aftermarket tach. This a host of other issues that have kept it regulated to an in-town 'drive only as needed' status. Finding this site has made me really want to get after some of these bugs and get it fixed!
In response to your questions - yes there is continuity from the IPVR to the gauges, it pulses at 5.5 volts at each of the gauges. According to what I have read, that means that they are getting the signal, but they don't move at all, even when grounded at the end directly to the battery. Could all the gauges have gone bad individually? Any advice on how to proceed?
Here are some pictures!
All the best,
Sam
