I'm am putting serious thought into purchasing a new Painless Harness for my truck. My dad and brother just put one on his Jeep and it was a great product with a really good technical support staff.
The harness on my truck had been "reworked" by several previous owners so I am planning on a complete replacement. I don't expect this to be a total "plug and play", but it should be fairly straight forward to tackle.
My main question is if anyone has incororated an aftermarked steering column with a GM style plug into their wiring. I don't want to spend $550 on a new harness, then cut into it for a new plug. Hopefully someone makes a plug adapter that I can use to join everything together.
I'm looking for thoughts on the wiring harness as well as the GM plug....let me know what you think. Thanks!

If you find you're going to have to splice in plugs anyway, I'd go with the EZ Wiring harness for 1/3 of the cost. I bought one and it's a great harness with each individual wire clearly labeled through the whole length. A 21 circuit with blade type fuses is $185.

Thanks for the info sargent.... I hadn't looked into EZ Wiring yet, but will start researching. The one thing that appears to be different is that the Painless kit comes with new pigtails for all connections and most of the new switches and solenoids. It doesnt look like the EZ Wiring kit comes the same way, does it?

Nope. Just the wiring. They do offer "universal" switches but since I'm going with more of a restomod theme, and I still have my old harness, I was going to splice in original connectors only where necessary for cosmetic reasons.

I have no experience with the painless harness, but I did just complete a total rewire on my 72 f100. I used a 21 circuit harness from Kwikwire, and I would rate the harness at C- due to a few quality issues, there were a few runs that were short and a couple wires misplaced in the fuse panel, support was okay. The wire itself was good quality. However, I would look elsewhere if I had to do it again.
Turns out EZ is just down the road from me...go figure.
Near as I can tell, the good thing about using painless is the instructions, they are very precise and well thought out (found this out after buying the kwikwire). They also match wire colors from what I can tell. This may be a case of paying top dollar for top quality. Whatever you decide, good luck with it!
