Blower motor resistor

Is there anyone out there that knows of a source to buy a blower motor resistor for a 68 bump, when I pulled the heater casing apart to refinish it, mine crumbled. Can't find it at the local parts house anymore.

So far its not good, no one I have talked to has one, nor do they know of a source for any.

If the photos look close, you might try one of them. But, they ain't cheap!

If you still have the remains of the old resistor, does it have two coils?

And, if the coil(s) are still intact, can you accurately measure the resistance of each one?

I ask because, depending on the current draw, you might be able to replace them with standard electronic parts. Power resistors are available in rather large wattages.

For instance, if the value was one ohm and the current was 5 amps, the resistor would dissipate 25 watts. Of course, you'd want to use a larger wattage like, say, at least 50 watts. One good thing is (I think) the resistor(s) sit in the air flow which would help to dissipate the heat. Well, until the heater got good and warm. Then, that could be a negative factor!

Looking at the coils in the photos, it appears that one end of each is connected to a common terminal while the other ends are connected to separate terminals. This arrangement could allow for 3 or even 4 fans speeds - No resistance would be HIGH and, by using each resistor separately and in parallel, three additional speeds could be realized depending on the switch. I haven't looked at the resistor in my truck so I am not sure how it is configured. Does it resemble either of the photos?

neither look like it, the coil arraingment on the 68 is inline, not side by side, my coils are fine, but from looking at whats available, I may attempt to build a backing to go back on it so I can just use the remains.
