Reverse lights and unknown wire

Post by randyj68 »

OK, I have two questions:

1. Putting my motor in the other day, hooking up the wires on the alternator and see a wire coming from the harness that has at some point been cut. No clue where it might go. I drove the truck for a year or so and never had a charging/alternator issue, only thing that has never worked has been the horn. I posted a picture on photobucket, not sure if it actually was supposed to go to the alternator or where. I have the ground wire attacched from the alternator to the engine and the 2 lead terminals attached, only one place for a wire left on the alternator and its labeled "STA"

2. Ive never had reverse lights, the switch is long gone, there are two wires hanging where the back up light switch was (original 3 on the tree), I decided the other day to hook up some jumper wires to see if the reverse lights would light up, but when I attached the hot wire the wipers started to work? Wipers have always worked great using the wiper switch........

Any ideas on either?
