power steering pump
So I started up the truck today and had no power steering. (I'm pretty new to this and still learning the truck, so bear with me) I located the ps pump. It has a 4" fill tube coming out the back, but no cap or dipstick. Should there be some kind of reservoir for the ps fluid? Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Joel

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, I'm gonna post this pic showing the power steering pump:
(Ignore the dirty engine...this is just a shot of the engine bay of a parts truck I picked up.) Your power steering pump should have a short (5"-6") dipstick, as pictured here. The steering fluid just gets poured directly into the fill tube of the pump. It's available in pints, and you just add a little, check the level with the dipstick, and add more as needed, but don't overfill.

Yup, that's exactly what I have, minus the dipstick. Is the dipstick something I can buy at Autozone or online, or will I have to go junkyard searching?
Thanks,
Joel

re: power steering pump
Well, went and got some type-f this morning, poured it down the dipstick tube, ran the wheel from stop to stop a couple times, and wahoo I have power steering again! Now I just need to find a dipstick...
Thanks for the help,
Joel

To be honest with you, I'm not sure if that's something you can get from the parts store or not....but a salvage yard would definitely have a ton of them.
I'd at least pop a cork into the filler tube in the meantime, just to keep dirt and debris out, until you can get a proper dipstick.

re: power steering pump
Hey Joel, did you ever find a dipstick for your pump? Here's one on E-bay:

re: power steering pump
Joel I found this part number , it is a Motormite product #82583. (power steering pump dip stick)
You should be able to get this at Advance Auto, Checker, Schuck's, or Kragen, they all use the same part numbers .

re: power steering pump
I actually ended up buying the one on ebay. Plus it came with a few extra parts I can resell.
Thanks,
Joel
