Defective headlight switch?

Post by max03 »

68 2wd. Purchased a new headlight switch from oriellys afew days ago, worked fine and now I've noticed that the headlamps are on after the first pull. That should be only illuminating the parking lights correct? Maybe I have a short or defective switch..

The running lights should be the only lights on with the first click pulled. The second click gives you the headlights and taillights and no front markers (1970 and later are different).

Some more information is needed though...

Do all of the lights go out when you push in the one click?

What happens when you attempt to pull it out a second click?

Are you sure the headlight knob is installed into the switch properly? No offense, once in a while it can be a real PITA.

Has the wiring harness been changed/repaired?

How did things work with the old headlight switch?

all of the lights stay on after the first and second pull or click, as far as i know the wireing is original. everything worked properly if memory serves me correctly with the old switch.

I just got one from them and it did the same exact thing until I pulled it back apart and put it back together, and it all worked like it was supposed to.

If it worked fine before this switch and does that now, then the switch is suspect.
