I did the 78 Bronco Tilt Steering Column swap in my 71 Ranger XLT. Actually, the guys at a shop in town did it. I printed out the info from this web site (http://www.fordification.com/tech/tilt.htm) about the wiring, etc., and they told me it was about 80% correct. They had to put in their own neutral safety switch. Now, they are having all sorts of trouble getting the turn signals to work, and telling me it may need a 2nd flasher. They said maybe that some models back then might need 2 flashers - one for hazard, and one for turn signals. Does anyone know anything about this? I know nothing about auto electric issues. Is there somebody out there who has done this swap with a 71 Truck before, and would like to share?
Thanks,
Bob

Re: Steering Column Wiring
Bob,
Your truck originally came with two flashers, (one for the turn and one for the hazard). I'm not seeing how the shop could have removed a flasher to install the tilt column? I also found discrepancies in the turn signal wiring thread you've linked above when I put my 79 tilt column in my truck last year. If you go to my build thread linked to my signature below you'll find a very good detailed wiring diagram for the tilt column I believe.
Here's where the turn signal flasher sits in our 71':

And here's the wiring similar to our 71', (as there's not a master wiring diagram for our 71's here):

I documented the actual wiring colors in my build thread with pictures, (which were not consistent with the post by dablaack on the tilt install). My wiring should make it much easier as i had to troubleshoot one wire at a time till I got mine working properly. I do believe the thread needs editing to correct the wiring misinformation-but that's up to the boss.
