Here's one of the 67 that made it through 2 months and magically fell over the night before we finished!

Well, Caleb beat me to posting a few pics, but here are a few more of the truck. It came out pretty bada$$ and will look a lot better once it is painted and lowered a little. And as Caleb mentioned, the day before we finished, the hood somehow magically fell over on a non-windy day (Gardener day..). That dent is in a terrible spot to try and fix, so we will be keeping out eyes out for a 67-69 hood in great condition. But the truck is still pretty killer as is...





And just for scale purposes.. Here it is next to my 69 F350 Crew Cab long bed... My truck is 20 feet long.

He is backed into my driveway with his front end pretty much even with my rear bumper:


...and his rear end is only even with the beginning of my front clip. Two extremes in bumpside design...

Ok, so finally got motivated to get something moving on the Crew. I have stalled because it is basically just waiting on paint now and I wont have the money to get it painted until I get my tax return in February. But I figure I can send it off for paint about a month before I get the money and tell them to take their time, so that puts me about 2 months out to get the rest of the minor loose ends done.

Yesterday I finally got around to painting the engine compartment and I plan to start working on the interior of the cab this week after work. Once I get the interior all sanded and prepped, then I hope to paint it this week or next. So I should start having some photos of the progress here and there.

Here is the engine compartment after it was painted yesterday. The pictures came out like crap due to the lighting situation at the time, so I will take better ones when I get a chance. It looks black (even in person from a distance), but it is actually a very dark green which is the same color I am having the rest of the truck painted. Once I get the interior the cab painted, then I can get the drivetrain back in and get the new cam broken in. My goal is to actually drive it to the paint shop, but we will see. If I do, it will be without any glass in the truck.

And I did not care about overspray due to the exterior of the truck being professionally painted in the near future, so I did not tape anything off and actually oversprayed on purpose to make sure there were no coverage issues.

Yeah, the pictures are terrible, but the lighting has not gotten any better due to the clouds and rain.

Anyway, we started sanding down the interior yesterday and as we did that, I decided to pull the rear doors to replace the tension springs. That led to the decision to paint the inside of the doors while they were off. We painted one door and the paint laid down so well and looked so good, that we decided that we are going to try and paint the entire truck ourselves. If it comes out like crap, then I can still get it professionally painted with my tax return. But if it looks good (its not going to be a show truck), then that will save me several thousand dollars.

Anyway, pictures should be soon to follow as we will be doing a little here and a little there. So finally there will be some updates to this thread and maybe I can be driving this truck early next year!!

Well, I had been sanding and prepping the interior of the truck for paint and started on the door jams today. I was going to paint the interior myself and have the exterior done professionally to try and save myself some money. The interior prep came out pretty nice as I got everything smoothed out and shot the primer on.



I started working on sanding the door jams today so I could get the color laid down on the interior soon, and thats when I uncovered my truck's dirty little secret. I had never noticed it before, nor had I really looked down in the corners when I pulled the gas tank out. But as I was sanding the rear driver's side door jam and a little on the exterior, I began to notice cracks in the paint in the lower rear corner of the cab. As I sanded on these cracks a little, then they began to get bigger until a LARGE, THICK chunk of bondo fell off of the truck. As I kept sanding, I could see that the cracks began to form around the entire bottom corner of the cab. I looked inside the cab down in the corner by where the gas tank would normally cover, and I could see that the entire corner of the cab had been crunched in and not really pulled out much. Someone just filled the entire dent with bondo... Lots and lots of bondo.




Anyway, it was more that I wanted to deal with as I am a complete amateur when it comes to bodywork. So at that point, I decided that I was just going to send the whole truck off to get painted professionally (my quote included all bodywork as well). And since this damage also went in to the inside of the cab as well, there was no point in me painting the interior when they were going to have to fix this corner of the truck. So I made some phone calls, packed up the bed of the truck with the body panels not on the truck, and off it went!!




I told them to take their time and do it right (which they do anyway). They are going to take the entire truck apart and paint each part separately after all body work repairs are done and they make sure it is perfectly straight. Their estimate is about 2 months. They are going to repaint the engine compartment as well and prep the interior of the bed for me so I can have it shot with bedliner (they have a connection and I may get that done there as well). Either way, I am hoping to have the truck back around my birthday.. So it will be a birthday present for me having it delivered back into the driveway so I can start putting it all back together.

The wife is happy as she can start parking in the driveway again (for now). The neighbors and evil homeowners association will be happy because the "eyesore" will not be in my driveway. CNM67 is happy because that means he can bring his truck over and we can pull his old motor, clean and paint his engine bay, and drop the newly built 390 in his truck, which will take a few days time. This will effectively take the wife's driveway spot away again which will piss her off, and put another "eyesore" in front of my house which will piss off the neighbors and the evil homeowners association! Then, all will be right with the world once again!

Aren't HOA's just awesome! I will never forget the look on the neighbors faces when I first rolled the 67 crew into the neighborhood with a full bed and my mattresses on top of it all. Cross that off the bucket list, hahaha.

Went over to the shop the other day to take a peek at the progress on the crew... They have not done much to it as there are a bunch of insurance jobs in front of it that take priority, but they at least have it moved inside and started a little bit of sanding and some minor bondo work. Nothing much, but here is where it is right now. Couldn't get a shot of the other side as was moved next to the wall while they work on some other cars:




They got the bed down to the original color and it is good to see that there was no bondo under there. The yellow bondo that is there is new stuff (not sanded yet) to straighted out the body. But I was happy to see minimal previous bondo on the bed!

I will pop in every few weeks and take some more pics...

Well, I went to the shop today to check on the progress of the truck. It is slow going which I figured, as that is part of the reason I am getting a discounted rate. They are taking their time and working on the truck during slow times. The insurance jobs obviously get done first. Anyway, I am in no rush so no complaining from me. They are still $1800 cheaper than my next lowest quote (from places where I know they do nice and correct paint jobs).

New heat and air! All I pretty much have left to buy now are a few odds and ends and then my exhaust system. Other than that, the garage is full of goodies for the beast when it is finally ready.
