Alternator Light On, But Still Working

Post by M-39 »

The alternator light went from being intermittent on to on at all times; however, the truck starts and all the lights come on. Is this indication of issues with the voltage regulator or potentially something else?

Well, I determined it was either the voltage regulator or the alternator. I got stranded coming out of the mountains this weekend. Lights went dim and the engine shut off. Thankfully, I was not the last one out that night. I had to have a jump start every 10min to keep going. I made it to a gas station which also had cell reception. My wife came to the rescue with all my tools and a new alternator and new voltage regulator. Replaced those and it fired right up and we made it the 100mi home with no further issues.
