Need power while cranking

Post by Zukinut »

I currently have my oil pressure gauge wired using the power from the idiot light. Problem is, power drops out when I'm cranking and that's when I really wanna see my oil pressure.

I've studied the schematic, but am having a brain fart. Is there a fused wire that is hot with key on and when cranking, other than the ignition wire?

Thanks Invadvance,
Will

I think the wire that goes to the radio would work. (between the inline fuse and the radio). I was in a hurry when I installed my oil gauge and ended up stripping the end of the wire and prying a fuse away from the end where it goes in the fuse box and stuffing in one end of the wire in. It's been that way for a couple of years.

Your oil pressure isn't going to be that good while cranking anyways. Running it for the few seconds it takes to look at the gauge, once it's reached a steady idle; won't hurt the motor even if there is zero oil pressure.

If you are that much concerned with starting oil pressure, you should install a preoiler. As soon as you turn the key on the preoiler starts a stand alone oil pump. When you actually start the engine it will be at full oil pressure. After the engine starts the preoiler will shut down.
