Starting System Fried?

I'm pretty sure my headers have fried my starter. I've had them on for about 3 months and I think they have finally melted the starter internals, shorting it out causing hard hard starting and overloaded starter wires and solenoid? Can someone confirm this for me? Would a cooked starter short out the system? It's so bad I wont drive the truck.
