Wiper Relay Adjustment Help PLEASE

Post by smittyj23 »

I have a 68 F100 that has what appears to be an aftermarket wiper relay. It does work, but the problem is is that at times the wipers stop in the middle of the windshield and do not go back down (like you would expect or like in a newer car).

I spoke with someone on this site and this is a part of what he said to me in a message: "when it stops in the middle of the windshield the park switch in the motor is going bad or needs adjusted."

Can someone let me know how to adjust this? I took the wiper relay control box apart thinking that there was a fine adjustment that could be done in there and there is none. Also for reference a buddy of mine has a 68 F350 and his has the same "aftermarket" (?) relay wiper control.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The "Park" function of the wipers is controlled by the wiper motor, not the relay/delay or switch. There are some points inside the wiper motor that control this and are as shown in that link fordman posted.

For clarification the wipers "park" fine when they are used. When I used the aftermarket intermintent wiper control box that is when they stop in the middle.

I'm going to take the aftermarket controller off because if it's not oe,it's gone.

even with the later model ford relay, it may be as little as a bad ground for the relay. i should bolt my 78 relay with delay to the dash to get effective grounding but don't and occasionaly wind up with it sperating from it's lone grounding wire enough to stop working.

iirc, it 78 and up broncos and f series. somewhere on this sight is a work up on the parts and which years need a slight wire change.
