wiring issues

I bought a 1972 f-250 with alot of wiring issues, I've cleaned it up as well as I can, but the gas guage won't work I did the test with grounding the orange wire I could get it to flash & the guage would move,but now it won;t even do that.Also the temp gauge won't operate as well,& the horn won;t work could it be that these won't work because like I said the wiring was a mess, now i've noticed that the voltage regulator,thats mounted on the fenderwell has no wires connected to it,it's just sitting there doing nothing,could it be that the alternator was changed over if so how would I be able to tell if it's right & could that lead to all my problems. I'm sure I'll be staying in connect thanks!

Some pictures of the alternator and attatched wiring would be helpful perhaps. As well as one or two of the regulator. That might get a couple of problems out of the way so you can start sorting out the rest.
