Wiring a regulator

Post by Jaustin »

I changed the alternator and 2 regulators later I came to the conclusion that I had a bad wire somewhere in the mix so I redid the wiring to get it to work.My question is do I need a resistor in the loop still? I came of the ignition and ran a wire directly to the s terminal on the regulator .The regulator kicked on and off like it should and I got 14.5v on the voltmeter at the battery.I went to radioshack and bought a pack of 560 ohm resistors and put one inline and now the regulator doesn't kick on..I have a 3 wire set up. I also have gauges and no lights.

Thanks

In this 72' wiring diagram it is showing a violet resistance wire from the ignition switch-hooking into the red/green wire on the voltage regulator. Kinda' hard to tell what the ohm value would be though? :hmm:

I understand the schematic. (Not being an ass) .I dont understand why if I have a 560 resistor in line why it doesn't come back on, when a straight hot wire it will.previous post have said to use a 560 resistor. Will it hurt anything if I don't run the resistor being I'm bypassing everything and going straight to the regulator? Since it worked before I put the resistor in.
