What is this wire for.....

Post by SevNT2Bump »

Does anybody know what this wire is for? It's white with a red strip on it. All of the other wires are hooked up properly, this one is just hanging there.

That is either for the water temp sending unit, or the oil pressure sending unit. I am just going off the top of my head and cant remember which color is for which. But it is one of those 2. Based on where it is hanging and how it is through that clip right under your coil, I would assume that is the oil pressure sending unit wire. It should go on the sending unit right above your oil filter which should be just below where that wire is hanging in the picture...

I see a plastic line in the pic for a mechanical oil pressure gauge. The wire is for the original oil pressure sending unit.

That makes sense. The wire reaches to the sending unit. The truck had under the dash gauges when I got it. They probably switched it to mechanical and just left the wire hanging there. I'm new to these old trucks and in no way a mechanic. Learning as I go and this site is a lot of help! Thanks.
