Problem with running lights, can you help?

Post by goodtimejonny »

Hey there. So all lights work except one. My problem is with lighting in the rear of the truck.

Both turn signals work, both brakes work, only the running light on the left side works when the light switch is pulled.

I took out the rear tail light bucket, changed bulb. Used a test light. I am getting a signal at the contact point for the running light. Once I put in a bulb, nothing happens. I am stumped.

Does anyone have any insight on this problem?

Thanks.

Are you connecting the test light to the contact and the socket, or the contact and the body/frame? I just changed my bulb for my rear license plate, and the socket was a basket of rust. Took a bit of sanding to get down to some metal that the bulb could contact in order to complete the circuit. I also had to make sure the light fixture had a good contact to my bumper, and the bumper to the frame.

On edit, are you sure the bulb is good?

If you're sure the bulb is good the socket is bad. Melt a drop of solder on the bulb pins and see if that helps.
