"Mystery Wire of the Day" Identification Help

Post by colnago »

I have a very non-stock wire end underneath my dash, and I need help identifying it. If I jiggle the wire, it sounds like it goes up the driver-side column. The PO started putting in a non-stock cargo light, but never finished getting it hooked up. Could an end like this be going to a cargo light? It almost looks like it should be going to a radio antenna, because it's like a coax cable, but there isn't an antenna in the roof. Any guesses?

Thanks,

Joseph

Certainly looks like a PL259 end, which is a two way radio antenna connector. I would go with it originally being put in for a CB radio as well.

Well, I just finished tracing the wire. It goes up to the back of the cab roof, where the other connector doesn't exist. It was coax cable, by the way; RG-58U. It looks like a PO put in a CB, and may or may not have ever had it completely hooked up, since the cable end at the roof is unfinished. But the PO to me put in a cargo light (and never finished its installation, either. I can't pull out the coax; it's stuck. But then again, the cargo light wiring doesn't come down the windshield column, either. So, it looks like I'll be having some wiring fun in the future.

I hate dealing with other people's &$^%#*! wiring #$%^@&!

Thanks,

Joseph
