Brake Lights not working after new brake lines

Post by Florian »

Hey!

I just noticed that my brake lights aren't working when I wanted to test drive my truck after I had installed new brake lines and hoses..so I quit my test drive plans and need to find out why the lights aren't working anymore.

When I did the brake line job I broke off the clip on the switch that goes on the brake distribution valve. The second clip was already gone, so I tried to tie down the connector with cable ties. I read that the valve can cause the brake lights to stay on if the piston inside it isn't centered. But can it also cause the brake lights not to work at all? Where can I get a replacement connector?

Does the switch on the distribution valve actually control the brake lights or is there another switch somewhere?

Thanks!

The switch on the distribution valve only activates the brake warning lamp at the lower left of the dash I think. The switch that controls your rear brake lamps should be mounted in a bracket under the dash and be activated by actual brake pedal travel. If it hasnt been modified it uses a special sort of clip that allows you to depress the brake pedal and while holding it down slide the switch to contact the brake pedal. Then releasing the brake pedal and pulling it up with your hand relocates the switch to its proper adjustment point. At least thats the way I recall. Has been a few years since I had to fool with my brakes and lights. It should be a round shaped switch with two wires attatched to it.

Haha, turned out to be a real stupid solution to the problem: the spring inside the switch on the pedal jammed up! A little WD40 and the other motorists are off my ass

Thanks for the help, TNiceWolf!
