Re: AM radio wiring help

Post by couchcuts »

I will look for the threaded stud coming out the back.....

I will, I saw the wire this morning, pretty bad .....from the color chart on page one it looks like the 12 gauge YELLOW wire that goes from the battery to the ignition switch.

I do not have the brackets, I have plumbers tape ( I have not figured it out yet, but it was suggested as a okay alternative ), I was wondering, does the bracket ground the AM unit?

Yes, the bracket grounds it.

Do you have the bracket for the speaker?

No, the speaker bracket looks very unique as well...

I have not figured out the solution for that yet.

Here is my First radio Thread, I started this new post when the project started up again, because alot of my questions were related to the wiring...

You can do that or you can use some plumbers tape, which is a piece of thin flexible metal with lots of holes in it. Mount it to the speaker bolt in the bottom of the dash, then attach the radio to it. A hardware store will have it for a lot less than $20 plus shipping.

Montana is right on many accounts... but using plumbers tape in ths situation isn't one of them...

Send me a PM with your snail mail addy and I will get a speaker bracket out to you.... I seem to have a few extras... not sure on the radio bracket though...

So I was looking over the wiring under my dash again and I noticed a terminal at my fuse box..

Can I take my new in-line fuse wire that is coming from the AM radio ( thanks 70_ranger ) and use the fuse box accessory terminal here in the photo?

Do you know which wire it is that is the accessory? If so test it with your tester... you do have a tester... right? And if it comes on with the ignition on and accessory but not when it is off then you have a winner!
When it is time to shrink wrap the wires you really should do that wire that is cracked in the other picture.

Yep, I got a tester :) , it is the accessory wire, and the open male spade connections at the fuse box in the photo above are accessory options as well.

I clipped the power wire and spliced in a new 5 amp in-line fuse using two butt connectors, heat wrapping each new connection. The new power wire then punches into the accessory spade connection at the fuse box.

To ground the unit I ran a wire from the bolt that hooks to the radios' mounting bracket to a bolt on the metal frame behind my glovebox.

everything works great!

I even soldered a line-in for my iphone using the FORDification post
http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =6&t=60251

Once I get the speaker mounted correctly I will be all set.

thanks for all of the help.....

Mancar1 for helping me pair a AM radio and speaker

70_ranger for all of the wiring help & suggestions

71PA_Highboy for the speaker mount and grounding advice

cheers

That's great! It's kind of funny how exciting it is to get your A.M. radio working isn't it!
