what is the best harness to completely rewire my 72

Post by Chris »

I want to totally rewire my 72. What is the best product out there. I have spaghettie menders in my drag car, but this is probably overkill for a street driven pick-up. I have never rewired a street car and would like some suggestions from people who have. This truck has some kind of ac unit but I don't know if it is stock or not and not sure if I should keep it or not. I'm also wondering wether it is simpler to do aftermarket gauges or is it fairly simple to restore the factory stuff. the truck has a 390, c6,2wd, and a 9 inch. Thanks for any ideas

Chris, my :2cents: are to find an O.E.M. harness that's as soft and supple as possible that's "complete" (no hacking, modifications or 'improvements' made) I've found all of that right here at FORDification in the parts for sale section.

You'll want a harness that's from your year truck with a matching gauges (full gauges versus idiot lights for example). One way you can tell if your A/C is "Factory" is to see if there's a A/C switch in your heater control switch. Factory A/C trucks will have this feature built in.

I've never used an after market wiring "kit" so no experience there.

Just a thought...

So, maybe I should pull the existing harness and see if I can repair it?

...well you can, but I personally don't have the patience to do so. I've found that if an existing harness is brittle or hacked up it's like an Ice Berg...there's more problems then meet the eye...

But that's just me...if YOU have the patience, a cool temperament and methodical mind, then by all means attempt this repair. Have I mentioned that I HATE electrical issues? I have the patience of a two year old throwing fits...
