A/C Installation recommendations
The best to you form Arizona... I've recently brought home a worthy veteran. She's a 67 F-100 4x4 with a 352. I'd really like some advice on installing A/C in her so I'll be able to drive in the summer. Any thoughts? I've seen that vintage air has a 'kit' the "easily installs". Thats the kiss if death, easy to install I mean. I'd like a good system thats easy on the motor.

Re: A/C Installation recommendations
I think that all the kits are about the same difficulty to install, but "easy installation" is a relative term. One thing you will have to watch out for is that 67 is a one year deal for the HVAC. The problem is that controls which are pull cable style in your truck. The rest of the bumpside trucks have the slide style controls. So an aftermarket system may not work with your heater controls. If you can find one, look for a system that operates completely independent from the trucks controls.
I have not seen anyone on here that I can recall that has done aftermarket AC in a 67 so I don't know of any references for the work. Good luck, I will be wanting to do this soon on my 67 project so I hope we can figure out something.

I also am interested in being able to incorporate the '67 switches/controls with aftermarket Heat/Cool. Or perhaps since our Blazer has a selector that rotates using that selector or one similiar with the '67 knob. Isn't one of the 3 sontrols in the '67 the blower motor control? Another is for the heater control valve & the 3rd for opening and closing defrost/heat directing air flow.fireguywtc wrote:I think that all the kits are about the same difficulty to install, but "easy installation" is a relative term. I would recommend then that you use a Sanden type compressorKevenator wrote:. I'd like a good system thats easy on the motor.

rather than the York piston type
http://www.jedi.com/obiwan/jeep/pics/yo ... 60_720.jpg
that originally came on these trucks. You can mount a Sanden with this adapter:

I have read that they use less power to run than the York type compressors do.

The nostalgic air parts evap unit will work with the stock controls, because they are seperate. Here is a picture of the a/c only unit that looks similar to an original. I have no experience with it but is the cheapest "kit" I have seen for our trucks.

Separate is not what I want. I can do that any day of the week and before you know it my dash is covered with switches and knobs for everything under the sun. Once I get my dash in I will be looking at options for controls that I can use the factory knobs on.

Forgive me if I'm wrong (I have been known to be) but in 1967 weren't all the AC units dealer add-ons? Factory air using the dash controls didn't start until 1968.Kevenator wrote:Thanks for the tips guys. I dont see anyone who makes a system that will work with the original controls.

I do not know when in dash units started with integral controls but believe it was the dents. Prior to that I believe all were just hang on units

Go to this page and look little over 3/4 of the way down and you will see the difference. http://www.fordification.com/tech/67-72ID_01.htm
Here is a pic for the same showing the factory A/C controls.

Now that's an eye opener. A hang on unit wired into the factory controls.Thunderfoot wrote:Correctflyboy2610 wrote:Forgive me if I'm wrong (I have been known to be) but in 1967 weren't all the AC units dealer add-ons? Although it resembles a hang on unit, the factory installed boxes have a different heater core and heater box then the none A/C trucks.
The factory installed units look like this.

A bit more info on A/C here http://www.fordification.com/tech/factory-AC.htm at the bottom it shows a lot of the hang on dealer installed units that are controlled on the units themselves.

Re: A/C Installation recommendations
You know what's sad? My truck had the "delux" dealer add on air when I got it in 1994. Fancy woodgrain & all. It would freeze you OUT. I pulled it because it was not original to the truck, & at the time I wanted the truck to be 100% original.
I kick myself SO HARD everyday for pulling it out. I consider that to be the biggest mistake I ever made with my truck.

Re: A/C Installation recommendations
I found a unit in a salvage yard but some of the trills are busted. I wonder if I should pull the unit and sell it. The engine compartment components are missing.
Check out my build. http://s1088.photobucket.com/albums/i336/MyF100/
