Front bumper interchange?

Post by FORDification »

Hey all....got a construction detail question. I know the front framerails on the '73-'79 pickups are the same width as the '67-'72 trucks and thus the front bumpers will interchange. What I was curious about and just wanted to verify is that the CONTOURS of the bumper are the same. If I were to pick up a bumper-mounted grille guard for a '73-'79, would it exactly match the contours of the earlier bumper or would I also have to use the later bumper? I haven't messed with the later style at all so I have nothing here to compare it to.

Keith, I think you're good up to '77. The '78/'79 front bumper contour is a little different and has a "fatter" look to match the new ugly grille.
