Re: Starting over - 69 Crew AKA "Green Hell"
After watching and reading about the unobtainum nature of Bump era F350 SRW front disc brake parts that you've gone through, even I sighed in relief to finally see your finished product.
Great Job! ...and Thank You for sharing.

Re: Starting over - 69 Crew AKA "Green Hell"
Been working more on getting the rest of the usable stuff off the 72 than doing actual work to the 69 Crew lately, but yesterday, had a few friends help me and we moved the bed from the 72 to the 69. Now it finally looks like a real truck and man is it HUGE!! I love the crew cab long beds!! Anyway, we didnt bolt the bed down right now so we can take it off when needed to do more work under the frame. Still need to get my 2nd tank boiled and reinstalled, and there is a small bump in the frame on the driver's side which is making the bed sit about a half inch to high on the drivers side. Next time I have the bed off, we will take care of that problem.
Anyway, trying to get the carcass of the 72 out of my driveway this week. Once it is gone, then we can spend more time finishing the bodywork, getting the crew painted, and then I can rewire the truck. Once that is done, I will be driving the hell out of it! Still gotta order my lugnuts so I can run my 5-slot mags on it.
Here is a picture of the truck with the bed on it. Can't wait till this beast is done!

Re: Starting over - 69 Crew AKA "Green Hell"
Well, today was a bit of a sad day as I had to say my final farewell to the remains of my 72. I loaded her up and took what was left of it to the scrap yard today. But she was stripped clean and her parts will have another life in my 69 Crew Cab and at least 3 other Fordification members trucks as CNM67, Colnago, and Socalcraigster all received various parts from what was left of her. The death of one helps 4 others live a better life.

Rich, I'll bet some of our rust belt members are crying now as your '72 looks to be pretty much rust free. I understand, no room and you're focusing your attention on your crew, but it's still sad to see your '72 go away...R.I.P. and may the donor organs provide a long life to the recipients.

Re: Starting over - 69 Crew AKA "Green Hell"
Well, it has been a while since I updated this thread and as I just revisited it and looked through it, it seems that about 2 pages have disappeared with a bunch of updates and photos gone from the middle of this thread. Strange, but the beginning photos and updates are all there, and the latest photos and updates are all there, but a lot of the middle stuff is gone. Oh well, it was just new brakes, and a bunch of the cutting, welding, and body work. At least the thread is still here (although, the date markers when stuff is done is always nice to see later for the owner. )
Anyway, we have been doing more to CNM67's truck as of late than the crew. I want to give a HUGE thank you to Forest Bump who allowed CNM67 to take his 67 up there and allowed us to make a mess of his driveway and tools while we picked his brain for knowledge and guidance. The truck sat in his driveway for about 3 weeks, and we made it up there 3 days to work on it. The goal was to convert his truck to power steering and power brakes from the 72. We also wanted to replace his entire timing set. In 3 days, we were able to locate and obtain parts we needed from a local "bump yard" to do the power steering and brake conversion. We located and pulled a manual pedal assembly from a 68, a driver side engine perch from a power steering truck, and clutch return spring from a 68, and a steering column collar for a manual truck (his steering column collar still had a hole from originally being 3 on the tree). Once we had all these parts, we tore into the engine and replaced the entire timing set with a new set from Summit, while installing the new pulleys needed to run power steering. We also got the stock engine perch out and put in the power steering perch. Hooked up the power steering box and pump, got the power brakes on the truck, and swapped out the 67 pedal assembly for the 68 pedal assembly to work with the power brakes. We also took out his 67 steering column and used the column from the 72 to work with the power steering box. Got the column all put together, wired, and painted with his new wheel on in before installation.
Anyway, with the help of Forest Bump who really knows his stuff, we got the 67 dialed in and that thing drives like a brand new truck!! Its crazy how much of a difference the power steering and power brakes make on that truck. And it runs sooooooo much better now with the new timing set installed. So again, a HUGE shout out to Larry for allowing us to come up there and pick his brain and dirty his tools for 3 days.
As for the crew cab, we are finishing up the body work and getting it ready for paint. The only glitch right now is that the bed is not lining up on the driver's side. The bump on the bed is about 1/2 inch higher than the bump down the cab. We think the frame might have been slightly tweaked when the service bed was being pulled off due to a weld that would not break on that side. So we are going to have to take a bunch of measurements to see what exactly is causing this. Hopefully its something simple and nothing that is going to require me taking it somewhere to get the frame straightened. That is not an expense I had planned for.

Rich, you and Caleb are more then welcome! Glad to help! Bring up any projects you have!

Re: Starting over - 69 Crew AKA "Green Hell"
Glad to hear that Larry! Hopefully it works out and you can stay put. You have a very nice setup where you are. School within walking distance and a garage workplace, while maintaining plenty of room for your bumps and space to work. Once I finally get the crew put back together, I will drive it up there one day so we can all look it over. But the way things are going, that might be a few months. The frame situation is really bothering me.
