I have my new harness installed and I have most items hooked up.
I am assuming that the main harness shouldn't get warm. Any ideas? Nothing was running, the key was only turned to on position.

I'm no expert but I think the best way to find out what's making it hot is to disconnect everything then connect wires one at a time and test each wire as you go.

It turns out it was the resistive wire for the coil. I will continue to check the wire once then engine is running to see if that will decrease the temp. Hopefully that will be in the next day or two depending on this storm Lee.

You might want to take a voltage reading on it, (at the coil) with the engine running once you get a chance. I know it's not suppose to have a full 12 volts @ the coil, (I believe between 8-10 volts)?bjde0b on Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:03 pm
It turns out it was the resistive wire for the coil. I will continue to check the wire once then engine is running to see if that will decrease the temp. Hopefully that will be in the next day or two depending on this storm Lee.
Lord knows ya'll don't need any more rain down there! Hopefully the parts of drought stricken Texas will get some, (we suppose to get an inch of it tomorrow here-which we need real...bad).

That wire will get warm epically if the motor is off and the points are closed... If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...

Exactly, that is why they call it a resistor wire. The resistor wire is holding energy causing the heat. Glad it was normal.
