Calf's 69 Crew build, and CNM67's 67 shorty build
Well, I bought a 72 F250 a year and a half ago and never started a project thread, but updated from time to time on here with some of the stuff I was doing.
This time, I decided I will put it all in one place. Here is the 72 as it sits now, and unfortunately, this is as nice as it will ever be again:
The 72 has now become the donor truck to my 69 Crew and CNM67's (Caleb's) 67 F100 (since he will be helping me a ton with my 69). Every body panel on the 72 will be swapping places with the body panels on the 69. The only body parts of the 69 that I will be keeping will be the cab and the rear doors. The 72's body is perfectly straight without dent or rust. I will also be swapping over all of the other good parts that the 69 doesn't have (trans cooler, fan shroud, larger radiator) and all of the other work I have put into the 72 will also be transferred over to the 69 (seat, radio, F600 dash with autometer gauges, shoulder belts, new wiring with relays, additional power outlets, etc...).
The good parts of the 72 that I dont need will be swapped into CNM67's truck (power steering, power brakes, etc..). He will also score the chrome bumper off of the 69, the seat out of the 69, and other nicer components than what he has in his 67. All of his old stuff will be put into the 72 before the 72 is sold when done as a donor. Hooking up CNM67 with what he needs is the least I can do since I have no metalworking skills and he will be helping me out by cutting out some rust in the Crew and replacing the metal. Without him, I would be lost in that catagory. So this is the least I can do!!
Anyway, here is the 69 F350 Crew that I just purchased for $2400. It has a rebuilt 460 with about 20K miles on it and a C6 tranny. It has been sitting for the past 13 years but has been started regularly and moved occasionally. I talked the seller into helping me remove the service bed and allowed him to keep it for scrap or to sell as I dont want it and have no where to put it. The truck is currently white, but will be green soon enough. Here are some pics of how it started out in my purchase:
Passenger side, front door is dented and surface metal is very weak:
Driver side, front door is dented and rusted through at bottom:
The monster service bed that is solid steel:
Beautiful 69 front grill, but I will be giving it to CNM67 and running my 72 front with billet inserts:
The 460 is a beast and runs amazing for sitting 13 years:
Another front shot with hood down:
Now for the only real problem area. Passenger side above the drip rail has some rust that has eaten through. The black crap on top of it was tape that was put over the rust to try and prevent it from spreading??? Oh well, its all going to be cut out and the metal will be replaced thanks to CNM67.
This is the front passenger side corner:
A few more holes along the passenger side above the doors:
And a shot a little futher out to give a better perspective.. Doesnt look too bad I guess:
The interior is missing the back seat, but the front is very nice and so is the rest of the interior. The dash pad (under that brown cloth) is absolutely PERFECT. Not a single crack or blemish on it. Its been covered the whole 42 years.
And now for the adventure of today. Went down there and paid the man. Did the paperwork, and then spent 4 hours cutting the bed off (it was welded on) and then lifting it off. Thank god he had a forklift!! Here they are as we went:
And what it looked like shortly before I drove it home 20 miles! Still had to rig up the brake lights and put the license plate on the bumper.
It drove home great as long as I did not hit over 50. There were flat spots on the tires and without the bed on the back, I began bouncing down the road at about 50. Took surface streets and it drove like a champ. Going to spend the next week going through the whole engine and drivetrain to make sure it is up to par and then hopefully this weekend we will be cutting away rust and welding in new metal!!

Re: Starting over - 69 Crew AKA "Green Hell"
Thanks. Yeah, I got in touch with the PO a while back when it was on CL and spoke to him often. I went to his house and checked it out a few times and test drove it. He has a ton of projects and old cars/motorcycles, so we got to talking quite a bit. We hit it off pretty well and he seemed to enjoy talking to someone that appreciated what he had and didn't think it was just a big junk yard. I think that pretty much helped when it came time to negotiate a price. That and the fact that he was happy it was going to someone that was going to fix it up, instead of tear it down.
Its a good thing I got a good deal because now that I have the truck and am going through it, its going to kick me in the wallet right off the bat. The front brakes are pretty much gone and the rotors are damaged beyond repair. So gotta get 2 new rotors and get the brakes all done. The rear seal is leaking into the rear brake housing too, so gotta replace the seals and might as well put some new bearings in there while at it... Anyway, I plan to cut some corners here and there and do some temporarly "quick fixes" regarding paint and some cosmetic items until I can save up enough money to do it right. But not going to cut any corners on the brakes and drivetrain. So there goes some of the "deal" that I scored. It still is a great deal though. The motor in this thing is in great shape, as opposed to the very tired 390 that is in my 72.
EDIT*** - Sometime ago, the website experienced quite a few problems and there was data lost from various parts of this site. This resulted in an entire page of posts, updates and pictures being lost in this thread. I am not going to recreate the updates, but I wanted to plug the pictures that disappeared back into the thread for future reference (mostly for me). But it helps update some of the progress that was made repairing the badly rusted out section of roof. So, this update is just to plug in the pictures that were lost.

I removed the whole front suspension of my 69 Crew F250....so if you need any parts i have good spindles, rad arms, 1 beam that is 1" kingpin, which the F250 crew's have and an xlnt dana 60 rear.

Ditto, I'd just find a good donar front end at a PNP and pull it all off. Those little bolts that hold the spring in the perches are a pain but otherwise it's just heavy grunt work with a jack and some big wrenches and prybars.

Wow! I just bought a crew cab with the same, if not worse, rust around the drip rail. Will you fix mine too?
The Crew is going to be really cool. Even if a nice LWB had to be parted out in the process.

Re: Starting over - 69 Crew AKA "Green Hell"
Gotta say that CNM67 deserves every bit of hookup from my 72 for his 67 that I can give him. The guy is a trooper and was working all day on his day off for nothing more than some breakfast, lunch, and a few beers! He seems excited to work on my truck and I think I can understand it because I cant wait for him to get his 67 home so he can bring it over and we can start getting work done on it too! A huge thank you to Caleb for doing this work on my truck. I dont know what I would have done if I didn't have a fellow member that was hooking me up with the metal work!

Nice work! I'll be doing the same thing. Is metal on the whole body 18-gauge? For that roof corner piece, have you thought about using a hammer and anvil or some other method?
