Turn signal switch needed?

Post by NC70Bump »

Hey everyone,
Noticed no brake lights yesterday and started looking for reasons and this is what I have so far.
Turns signals work
Running lights work
Plate light works
No flashers or brake lights
Checked fuses=good
If I have the turn signal on, then turn on flashers, the flashers work on all corners...but I only hear the turn flasher working, not the emergency flasher. PO did a mess with the wires under dash but at one point everything was working. I did replace the light switch a couple months ago if that has anything to do with it.
I did replace the brake light switch yesterday but no luck with that. Anything else I should be looking at before buying a turn signal switch?
Appreciate any input
Thanks

check the wiring diagrams to look for wires that may have been cut or bypassed. or bad connections first. http://www.fordification.com/tech/schematics_h.htm

we need the year of your truck to be sure to know what we are looking at when helping chase diagrams if needed.

brown is tail lights. yellow and green are the turns/brake light wires. check for power into the column wire 44. i think the wire is black with red. i didnt look real hard. but wire 810 goes out to the brake light switch it should have power to it. then when the switch is opened. it should supply power out to the emergency flasher. and then to the brake lights. it could be a bad brake light switch if you have power out of the column. if you have power in but no pawer out of the turn signal switch then it would be a bad turn signal switch.

fuse wasn't making a good contact.... sanded contacts in fuse box and all is working now. I did replace the turn signal switch to stop me from driving around with my left blinker on all day
One weird problem was the new brake light switch that I put in at the start of this, was bad out of the box. Took all day for me to figure that one out
Hopefully that will hold me over for a while
Thank you for your help fordman and to this site for all the great info :fr:
