9" Brake Booster
I know they made a 9" and a 11" brake booster. What year and truck did the 9" come out on. I had rather go with the smaller on count of clearance.

re: 9" Brake Booster
A friend told me today he thought that the 67-72 one ton truck had the smaller diameter booster, but he wasn't sure. Does anyone know if this is true.

re: 9" Brake Booster
I have the 9" on my Truck,I used it because the 11" was to Big to for the Cobra Valve Covers that I had to go on it.
I got the Booster at O"Reilly's Auto Parts Store about $70.00 after core charge rebate.

re: 9" Brake Booster
There is also a smaller one yet. I was looking in a bone yard for one and 4 different trucks in the 67-72 range all had differnt boosters, and none was like mine with the raised bracket. A 67 F-250 camper special had one that was about 6 or 7 inches in diameter.

re: 9" Brake Booster
yes, willowbilly is right...the early boosters were very small, about 6"-7". Here's a pic of a '67 I found recently in a salvage yard...check out that DINKY booster:
Several '68s that I've parted out had a larger booster. The '67s seem to have been the only ones to have these from the factory. However, I have no personal experience with these so take it FWIW. I've also been told that these smaller boosters don't work as well as later versions.

re: 9" Brake Booster
yea guys thats the booster that i was commeting on that i saw in the bone yard the real small one they would be the answer to clearance problems in the engine bay but the question is do they work as well as the newer one's? I havent seen one available on the market aways got the 9" one when requesting a replacement one. Maybe if we had a part # we could research it more! Tim.

re: 9" Brake Booster
I beleive im running the 11 inch. I pulled it from a 77ish 2WD from the yard. This has the cantilever links, were the booster rod is not directly connected the brake pedal.

I think that is similiar to the one my 69 has on it. It has the raised bracket and camtilever thing. It is also shot.

Just thought I'd mention to the newer guys who aren't sure what you're referring to when you mention the cantilever style, that there are pics of that particular style of power booster down at the bottom of THIS PAGE, Figs. 6 & 7.

re: 9" Brake Booster
Yep, the '67 only had a dinky booster just like the one's for the earlier trucks. In '68 it got a lot bigger along with the goofy pivot thing to raise it up (you're right Keith). Sometime in '69 they also came out with the middle size one with the straight rod going into it.
As far as braking power, the dinky '67 unit is the weakest, then the big one with the lever pivot, and finally the strongest one is the midsize one with the straight rod. The midsize one uses a dual diaphragms in tandem and was the standard booster in the F350's. I have a Ford technical service bull. that suggests swapping out the bigger booster for the midsize one just for owners complaining about their lack of brake performance.
I did this booster research about 10 years ago so I'm just going by memory. Last month I installed the midsize booster on my F250, what a difference!!
