The Pink Wire....

Post by Boggie »

Well I really messed up.... I fried the pink resistor wire (16a) or (16) in my 68 C/S. I had rewired a few things after carefully studying the wiring diagrams that are provided in the tech section.I can figure out the wiring but the real question is how sunk am I being that the resistor wire is well a resistor to the coil. I dont know how much resistance the wire provided and if the proper resistance will be aquired if I happen to locate some of the same resistor wire and soder/fix the affected area. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :(

They do!... Will soldering a repair be right or should I remove the whole wire and replace it entirely?
Do the resitor wires come in different resistance values?
These are things that Im pretty dense at. And thank you for the reply...

i am going to guess and say soldering the wire is best. but they may have a certain type of connection that is used. i am unsure. the resistor wire should go all the way up to the firewall plug originally.i dont know where to splice the wire at.

if they do rate the resistor wiring it is probably by color. i do not know the rating of the wire.

Napaonline shows an Echlin #ICR22 on that wire with a male bullet on each end. Rating is 1.35 ohms.
One is also available from AC Delco under part # RU13. 61" long. Apparently applications run from '65-'91.

Did you replace points for a points eliminator or electronic ignition? If so you don't need the resistor wire.

When I converted to durasprark that pink wire started to get real hot an melted almost caused a electrical fire .I had just installed a stereo couldn't figure out what the burning plastic smell was. all the stereo wiring was good . then I touched the pink wire an almost burned my hand .I just replaced it with 12 ga wire and no more problem!
