auxiliry tank switch

Post by oakes116 »

my switch went bad and can't find a replacement. i bought a newer switch but figure out how to wire it ( if it can be done). my truck is a 1985 econoline f-350 the wires i have are 2- orange and red stripped, 1- black, and 1-brown. the new switch and harness has 2-reds, a black, and a brown and white stripped. the brown and red have jumpers.

i have several F150 switches that plug right into the 80-96 truck harnesses. here is what they look like. the wires you have on th enew switch are probably just duplicates for the black and brown.

for your situation. i would wire both reds to the orange wires one each. then both blacks to the single black and then both browns to the single brown.

i wouldnt think one orange was hot and the other wasnt. i would test the wires in the van first. to make sure which one was hot or if both were. it could be a in and out too. hot in and the switch makes the other hot going out.
