i hooked up the voltage regulator and wiring the harness seemed like it wasnt the right one but its what lmc sent me so i hooked it up the truck started then shut off and the regulator caught fire now my truck wont start and i have no idea how to wire it i could realy use some ideas
Holy crap. Hope it didn't cause much damage. Check out the diagrams at the top of electrical and wiring. Or the Diagrams and schematics on the index page.

there are two different wiring for these trucks. but basically there is a truck with full gauges in the instrument cluster and trucks with half gauges and half dummy lights. now why did it catch fire? is the alternator an original alternator? or is it a alternator with a internal regulator? are there any other wiring problems with the truck? tell us all you can is the regulator new or the one that was on the truck already? was it hooked up before?
it was new wiring harness new regulator old alternator it had a v regulator on it when i got it but i took it apart then i went to iraq and forgot how it was wired it caught fire when i was cranking it over does the voltage regulator have any thing to do with the truck starting because if dosnt then ive also got that issue as well i bought ann electronic ignition to take the point out i honestly dont know much else but i need help because it need to drive to texas next month any help would be great ive already looked at the diagrams for it the wiring on the truck didnt match the diagram so i did the best i could to run the wire where it needed to go but i guess i got it wrong
if the truck wont turn over it has fried other wires or parts on your truck. it may have done something to the wiring to or from the starter relay on the fender. or even the relay itself. the regulator tells the alternator how much to charge is what it does. if you havent done the dist swap yet dont that may complicate matters. i would remove the burnt up wiring. and probably the regulator and maybe the alternator. if they look burnt up then i might get different ones. if not you can have them tested to see if they are still good. the 67 wiring diagrams arent complete. i can tell you that. i even went out and bought the reproduxction book from lmc. and they dont show the hookup for full gauges in a 67. but they are similar to the 68 and 69 diagrams for the alternator. so you could use that diagram to rewire the alt wiring. i considered offering to come out there and help yo uout. but i dont think i can right now. all of my vehicles are either broke down or have no tags on them. its only a 3 hour drive out there. i cant give much more help than htis. it is just looking at the iwres and testing to see if they are not burnt in half. and then having your parts either tested or replaced. on the fender relay the red small wire on the front small terminal is the wire that sends the singla to the starter relay to start the truck. the brown wire on the back of the relay is to send a full 12 volts to the coil at start up only. then the two battery wires. on from the battery to the relay. the other to the starter. then there could be other wires going to the gauge inside. and the rest would be alternator and regulator wiring. do you have full gauges or half dummy lights in your instrument cluster?
i have full gauges and if you need help getting here i can help you just let me know this needs to get fixed soon so if you have any other questions about the truck let me know
as of today i had to borrow a car so my wife could get to work and i could still have a truck to drive around. it looks like i am going to be swapping a dodge transmission this week. and when the parts to my subaru come in i will then be working on it. i have yet to get any lawn mowers ready for the season yet. i dont think i have the time really. i wouldnt mind at all. its just things are going badly here right now. i have ignored even selling my stuff.
