I'm doing a swap to an aftermarket wiring harness, and I'm trying to get the ignition switch figure out.
Ignition switch is in the bottom right right of the diagram:
http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... rging2.jpg
Looking at the labels for the switch breakdown:
A = switched accessory
B = battery
C = coil +
S = solenoid
What do the PO (prove out) terminals connect to? On my truck I've got a solid purple wire coming off the top PO terminal, but its not in the diagram. Looking at the 70 diagram (which has similar labels, but a different ignition switch), it looks like it ran to the brake switch? On my harness I have a purple wire in the top PO terminal.
Also, the diagram clearly labels the "C" as coil, but if you look follow the diagram to its conclusion the coil is getting its power from the accessories switch. On my truck, I've got a brown wire with "resistor wire - do not cut or splice" written on it coming off C, which I assume is the resistor wire going to my coil, but that doesn't jive with the wiring diagram.
Any have an idea how its supposed to be wired?

Re: 68-69 Ignition Switch
I know on my 68, the pink wire(resistor wire) did not connect to the wire shown in the diagram. The resistor wire went from the ignition switch to the connector that goes to the coil. The brown wire goes from the solenoid to the exact same point on the same connector. So, both the pink and brown wire are spliced together at the connector. On mine, the red/blue strip wire runs parallel to the resistor wire, but does not connect to it like the diagram show.
I also have the purple wire, but am not sure where it runs out to. I'm guessing the fuse block, if I remember correctly. Uneducated guess here. I can look later as I install my column.
The brown wire gives the coil the 12 volts during starts only. Once the ignition switch returns to the run (ACCY-COIL) position it gets a reduced amount of voltage.
I hope this is helpfull. I kind of was rambling, Sorry.

Re: 68-69 Ignition Switch
from this diagram two of the ignition switch wires will be for the brake warning light and switch. http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... master.jpg
here are two pictures of a switch plug from a unknown year of F500. the switch should be exactly the same. so the wires should be correct on this plug.
edit: it looks like there may be two different igintion switch wiring. 1 is for a truck with all gauges in the cluster. 2 is for dummy lights in the cluster.

There are some mistakes in these factory diagrams and this is one of them.formulaic wrote:Ignition switch is in the bottom right right of the diagram:

You are correct in the switch breakdown.formulaic wrote:

The PO terminal grounds the connection when the key is turned all the way to start, only one of them is used; this purple wire is for the Brake light and it turns on the light during starting to show that the light is not burnt out, so you know that it is working. Re: 68-69 Ignition Switch
Thanks for the info, much apprecatied.
Got pulled away from the truck on Sunday, but hopefully this weekend I can get her back on the road with zero electrical gremlins.
