Won't even gasp!

Post by jprado »

The old battery gave out on my '69 F 100 (240 engine) when my son tried to get the engine started.
I purchased a new battery - I figured it needed a new battery anyway since I did have to charge it the other day to work on the truck (a friend charged it up for me).
Installed the new battery.
The negative clamp coming from the front end of the engine won't tighten to the battery post very well, though it does make clean contact.
Anyway, now the engine bearly even clicks when I attempt to start it.
Could it be that the solenoid is out?
Maybe something wrong somewhere else?

:?
:hmm:
:help:

Thanks a bunch for your help!

thats a loose cable problem when it only clicks. sometimes you can take the end off the battery and tap it kind of closed more. to help it fit tighter. they also used to make those sleves that went over the post so the cable would fit tighter. a new end is prbably needed though. cable ends wear out faster than anything on a truck.

I would bet the inside of the cable is corroded pretty good too. Yeah those ends are cheezy..
