Straight Rod Throttle
What's everyone doing to replace the christmas tree throttle mechanism. How are you hooking up a straight rod? Thanks.

Yes sir a straight rod fom the pedal linkage to the carb. Ford had a couple variations of adjustable rods that had threads. Might have one in the garage if your interested.

re: Straight Rod Throttle
I made the one for my 460 out of threaded rod and cut to the right lenth and have heim joints on each end with some jam nuts so they dont back off. Works great!

re: Straight Rod Throttle
ok, if that works, why did ford make the rube goldberg of throttle linkages to begin with? why not just a cable? the parts truck i have has a cable, but its 6. dose any one know if the bracket will work with the 390?

I agree, a cable should work as long as your return springs are good. I had to make a rod for mine (quickly) when the original broke. It may not look great but it works and it is adjustable.

Hmmmm... that looks like a real easy fix, either the rod or a cable. I'll post after I get it rigged up. Thanks to all.

Heep, your solution is simplicity itself! I guess the trapeze was just some frustrated engineer's idea of a good time.

Sweet that just what I was wanting.

TCB, thanks for an excellent explanation. I found a rod off a newer model at the wrecking yard and it works fine but now I'm going to evaluate its performance with your comments in mind. Here's a photo of the rod I installed.

Dang Jor - are you building a show truck? That engine looks awesome!
I don't think you'll have any problem with a straight rod - since your going all edelbrock. I'd bet the fuel delivery is a lot more accurate than a stock autolite - not to mention your intake being much, much better!
Just for info - try it both ways though and see if there is any difference?

re: Straight Rod Throttle
Excellent post TCB! Thanks for the explanation.
I didnt know the trapeze had such purpose.
My 70 FE has a length of coat hanger for a throttle linkage. Just cut the right length and bend the ends arount to loop/hook the pedal rod and carb linkage together. Doesnt look very technical or fancy, but it works.
