lights dim at idle? normal?

Post by harveyracing06 »

ive got a 72 f100 with a 302 and looks to be a stock alternator. and my problem is when the headlights are on and heater blower on, the lights dim and blower slows at idle. is there a way to bump up the charging on the alt. at idle or is the alt going out? new battery also. charges fine with nothing on but have not put a voltmeter on it with lights and blower on.

I would have your alternator checked it could be bad, the other thing would be the Voltage Regulator. Most of the parts stores will check/test your stuff for free and some can do it right on the rig in the parking lot. :2cents:
