Dashpot wire (Dealer A/C Throttle Kicker Wiring)

Hello guys,

On the dashpot (Motorcraft 2100-D carb) is a small cable (like in the picture) hanging loose and not connected!
Is this suppose to be or must it have a connecting?
Can anyone help me on this.

Paul,

I believe it would be a fast idle solenoid or throttle stop, (that should be powered with 12V+ when the ignition switch is in the on position).
Maybe fordman or TF or someone else can confirm this?

Thanks... it is mounted on the right side on the carb, but the wire is not hooked up! Can cause this problems???

Yes... the truck is equiped with a dealer installed A.R.A. a/c unit

Then I would bet that that is supposed to be wired into the compressor circuit to raise the engine speed with the A/C on.

Unfortunately, exactly how it should be wired into the compressor circuit I don't know.

His signature says 71' F-250.
Unfortunately the wiring diagram for 1971 models doesn't seem to exist? I'd looked for it before and ran into the same issue. Wonder if the below 72' wiring diagram would be different (probably)?

that looks like it. the blue wire going from the solenoid to the firewall connector.

That is a good idea!
My truck is to be identified as a '71 according to the steering wheel, grill etc...
But did some research last weeks my VIN is F25 H R J82025 (same number on the frame and the door) so that means a '70 F250
I have a speedometers with a red line above the 70MPH thru 100MPH markers, the tag on the carb says D0AF T. That is a also a '70 part number.
It am confused now! I believe now I have a '70 truck that is restored with a lot of '71 parts!
So maybe the '70 wire diagram can give a clue why there is a wire on the dashpot!

Not sure on the dealer (aftermarket) installed A/C systems but the factory ones didn't have an idle-up solenoid on them (that I have ever seen). If it was for the A/C it would be wired into the same power wire for the compressor, but I think that what you have is the stock fast idle solenoid and it would be plugged into the Blue wire coming out of the firewall, by the same wires for the distributor-water/oil sensor wires. All this solenoid does is let the idle of the carb close down when you shut the engine off (as it retracts without power to it) so the engine will die and not try running on because of the faster idle. I believe they did this faster idle to help with some emissions... not having it hooked up will not effect anything unless you have a problem shutting the engine off, then hooking it up and setting the idle with it on will help.
