i love being a kid

Post by morganater »

Since my parents have committed to getting me a decent paintjob professionally done on my truck for my christmas present!  :D I am SERIOUSLY considering/pretty much decided on FLAMES, 2 tone fade into flames from the front end.DOES ANYONE have any pictures of flames on a 67-72 ford?. Does anyone have any suggestions on color combos, or something that might go with my black interior well? I am so excited.

Parents got a spare room my truck could use some extra $$ to finish. Your blessed get it done while you can afford it as when you take on kids and mortages it gets trickier to restore your toys as diapers and paychecks dont last as long as trucks.

I only had a few of the '67-'72 era with flames, so I went ahead and uploaded them to my photo album. I also threw in a bunch of other hotrods with flames on them, just for some inspiration. Here's the link:

...and here's one for the heck of it:

Well, as soon as I can actually make it back into the shop to get any work done I'll post some updates. Believe me, I'm chompin' at the bit wanting to get my hands dirty, but with my wife working night shifts (to save on day-care expenses), I watch the boys in the evenings....and they're still WAY to young to go to the shop. My wife would have my hide if she caught me bringing a 2-year-old and a 4-month-old down there!

Enjoy the heck out of being a kid, morganater...because you'll find when you get older that life is much different, especially when you have the day-to-day hassles of work and family to contend with. Don't get me wrong, I love being a dad and husband, but there are times I'd like to just run away from the real world and just live at the shop for a week or so.

In regards to flames, though....I've always been partial to more subtle graphics, like those on the pic above. To me, under-stated speaks more than 'in-your-face'. Granted, the red/orange/yellow flames on a black truck look cool, but sometimes a vehicle actually gets MORE attention when the custom touches are more subdued, as opposed to leaping out at you. When I look at a custom vehicle, I prefer to see a whole well-executed package. I want to say "nice truck!" instead of something like "whoa...look at those flames" or "that truck's got some nice wheels". No single element should jump out at you....it should all work together to achieve a well-balanced package.

Keith,
Isn't that the Truck that was on eBay a month or 2 ago that had front end "Passenger side" damage to it?

No, that was a different truck...the one pictured above was on E-bay, but it was absolutely perfect!

If you are going to do flames, the only kind is black with red/yellow/orange.

Those ghost flames look like you wanted flames but were afraid to be too bold.

One mans opinion.

Look kid the flames are a great thing however they mean nothing if the mechanics of the truck aren't up to par. I mean don't spend the money on paint if the motor is nearing a rebuild. to ruin a 4 or 5k paint job on an engine pulling task can be sad affair. you can aways add flames.
