Phantom Phlashers

Post by Mugwump »

Hey gang
I recently put some LED bulbs in my brake/turn signal lights, and of course the flashing is very rapid. Sooo, I moseyed on down to the local autozone and bought me a fancy new electronic flasher module. Plugged it in and voila! no difference whatsoever... and listening to it, there's no clicking coming from it.

Suddenly dawned on me :hmm: that this thing being a CS must have another flasher module somewhere...?

It's a '69 Ranger CS, 390/C6 and it's had some mods done to it over the years, with a 5th wheel plug added in the bed and whatnot. Hoping this is something obvious with the CS model tho.
Any ideas?

the trucks have two flashers. one is for blinkers the other is for emergency flashers. the flasher cans are behind the instrument cluster. one on each side of the column. the turn signal one is hooked to the drivers side of the cluster. the emergency flahser is on the passenger side. and may have been clipped into t aholder on the dahs support behind the cluster.

Ah sure enough there it is! Thanks Fordman (as usual).

Only thing is, now that I've plugged in another electronic flasher to the driver's side one, now the blinkers don't work at all.
Now what?

Be sure that the flasher is designed for the LED bulbs mixed with the regular bulbs, the LED's don't put a load on the system which is what the old flasher needed to work. The reason the old one worked at all was from the front bulbs still given it a little bit of a load but not enough to flash at the right speed. The new one you got may not like the mix of half regular and half LED and you may want to put the LED's in the front turn/markers as well (they take the same bulb as the back 1157 type). But also, double check that you got the right flasher as there are a couple different ones and some look the same, this place shows some. http://www.ledlight.com/electronic-led- ... -ep29.aspx
The CS wont have any bearing on the situation.

If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...

Need the proper flasher for LED's, and it is best not to mix/match with incandescant bulbs. Best to go all LED.

Yeah, I have LEDs in all the signals/flashers front & back. I guess I was assuming that 'electronic flasher' meant that it was, by default, LED compatible... I'll order a couple from the link Thunderfoot provided and see if that helps.

Thanks for the assistance
