no-fire 390
ive installed a new cam and crossed up my pertronix wires upon reinstallation. now the truck backfires and wont start. could it be the igniter and how do i check it?

if it backfires you are getting spark it seems. here are the only hookup diagrams i know of. there are probably more and ways to test your system. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =8&t=48178

That sounds like something you get when your spark plug wires are not in the right position.

Did you make any adjustments to your timing?
Thanks JP! Ms. Cordova is a factory 1969 Ford F100 Ranger with a 390, Front disc brakes, Cordova copper orange, behind the seat box

Double check the cam timing. Re-install the plug wires in the correct order. Then check the ignition timing. If the cam or distributor is 180 out, it will backfire but not run. If the cam or distributor is off by one tooth it will cause goofy problems.
