Heater Assembly Help

I was hoping that someone could help me to get an idea of the best way to remove my heater assemby to replace the core.

which kind is it. the kind with the a'c in the same box or the kind all by itself?

Great! Thanks. I got the heater box off and am in the process of getting the core out. One more question......the heater wasn't hooked up when I purchased my truck and the previous owner had simply looped one of the hoses back into the block. My question is....what hose gets the valve? Is it the hose closest or farthest from the engine?? Any help would be appreciated. I have seen pics with it attached on both. Just wanted a clarification as to which one had the valve attached from the factory.

My 68 has the valve on the hose closest to the engine. Hope that helps.

If he bypassed the heater, it was probably for a reason: like a heater core with a hole in it!
I would recommend replacing the heater core. Also paint any areas that may be starting to rust. Bondo makes a product called One Step, it's a rust neutralizing spray. I use that, after getting as much of the rust off as I can, then give it a coat of primer, then surface coat it. Por-15 works well, too.
