Not a problem, just an oddity

Post by Oren09 »

I noticed today that when you hit the brakes with the 4 way flashers on, they stop flashing and stay steady on- even the front lights.
Is this just the way the brake/turn signals are wired? Or is something messed up?
I don't have any other problems except a loose brake light switch and fast flashers. Just wondering if everyone elses truck did this.

That is normal and a safety function... If you were being towed or even moving slow with your Hazards on, with someone behind you they will know when you are stopping as your brake lights work.
All cars/trucks are this way unless they have separate bulbs for brake and turn like many of the newer vehicles do.

My 97 Ram doesn't do that. I have to use arm signals when towing friend's vehicles with a chain and hazards on.

I figured it was just how the circuits were wired. Just wondering.

Your 97 Ram also has a 3rd brake light that does still light up when you hit your brakes. My '00 F150 is the same way.
