I replaced my TSS on my 68 (79' tilt column)with one from a Lincoln and all worked fine. I had brake and turn signals now I have no brake lights or left turn in rear. Does anyone know what goes wrong with the TSS switches and how they work?
Seem like anything that goes wrong with brake or turn signals is the TSS.
Could it be something in the instument cluster?

the tss has contact inside of it. when the switch is moved the contacts move and they contact the power contacts which routes power to the correct circut the contact is hooked to. if the contacts are touching properly then the switch is called bad or basically needs a new turn signal cam.
I guess I should rephrase my question.
Does anyone know exactly which wires connect when the turn signal is applied?
It doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the switch, I want to try bypassing contacts to make sure this is the problem.
I got a quote from a Ford dealer for $156.00 and they said they're discontinued and I'd have to locate one from another dealer.

You simply need a wiring diagram to trace it out. I am sorry that I don't have one handy but 78 or 79 truck or van will work. As far as if eeh switch is good or bad goes though, you can't see if it has a problem as it is internal. There are two main failures on these, the most common is the contacts under the cam get hot and melt into the plastic a little and then they no longer contact properly (and the wire terminals get loose as well because the contact is also the rivet that holds the wire to the contact!). The second problem is the hazard switch contacts. The switches can look just fine but not be functional at all. Hawkrod
Found a pinched wire for the left signal. Must have been enough current turn lunch the TSS. It probably didn't help that the fuse was wrapped in tin foil. Off to get another switch tomorrow.
