Ebay Part Searches

Post by dcbullet »

I think ebay has changed the way their part search works. Because now if I search for 1967-1972 Ford F-100 parts, I get 3,000 parts for other fords.

What are you guys using now to do general searches. I don't mean looking for a 1969 grille. That's easy. But I like to browse all the parts available for 1967-1972 F-100's.

Ebay uses key words or "tags" to perform searches. Sellers have gone nutz lately with the tags in an attempt to get more bidders. At least thats my observation. Once apon a time you could go to ebay & type in f-100 & get everything you could ever want for these trucks to pull up. Here lately Nikon F-100 cameras constitute 70% of the results of that search.

If I have to go to ebay to find something, I usally allow +/- 1 hour to sort thru the junk the search pulls up :(

Yes, eBaymotors is a joke any more. I don't need chrome mirror covers for a new F250... Not much point crying about it though.

Try to direct your search better for what you are looking for.

I can find item 'X' pretty quick when I look for it. Just looking for all the parts for a '67-72 turns into a fiasco.

Another thing, do a search by closest location. I've gotten some great deals on part in my town. Picked up the 0-4000rpm tach for $15 out of a bluebird bus.

One way to avoid the crud is to use negative modifiers in your search string. For example, you can type in "67 f100 -nikon" (using the example posted above, but without the quotation marks) and anything "nikon" will be removed from the search.
