Truck cab shrinking?

Post by dssco »

Has anyone else had this happen? In high school three or four of us could ride around in my '71 F100, no problem, double dates, whatever. Fifteen years ago me, the wife and two kids could drive around the same truck comfortably. Now, me and a friend or me, the wife and the new baby in the cab is about it. Is there any ratio as to years per shrinkage? Just wondering :)

Good evening Dssco,

I've noticed this as well! The entire cab in my F250 has decreased in internal volume quite a bit since I was a teenager.

I don't have any old photos of me in it back then to prove this, but you can see how tiny my cab is today--why, it's barely large enough for me to sit in there and operate the controls!

And I can see how badly some guys have this problem; just look at this poor truck:

I've noticed mine shrinking from front to rear. Not as much room between the stomach and steering wheel as there used to be. :?

:yt: :yt:
But I took care of that problem, I just shortened my steering column some. It also helps that I have tilt steering. We are all good again.

I remember going on at least one double date in my 71 F100 before I met my wife. Seemed like I had plenty of room to drive and it was a manual steering with 3 on the column truck back then.

Just got back from playing basketball with the other nieghborhood geezers. I just had to measure the distance from the gut to the steering wheel. Answer is 5.25 inches.
