Re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (Shes alive!)
today I tuned the idle mixture on the carb. Max vacuum is 18 or 19 inches. Cant remember the exact number but it is one of the two. Seems to like 20 degrees btdc initial timing. Im not sure what my total timing is.
She sure idles nice tho.
Next on the list...
I bent my radiator fan. Crap!
Save up money to get the driaveshaft shortend and balanced. Buy oil cooler lines.
Mount choke cable.
I knew that I had to re-bleed the brakes, I just forgot that I had to replace one of the wheel cylinders. Ooops.
Oh and the birds...they set up house again. This time in the steak pocket on the drives side. Inside where the wiring for the tail light and bed marker light is. Theres three eggs.

Re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (Shes alive!) 5-25-2010
I wouldn't worry about an oil cooler on this engine. If it was really built then yeah but I'm not even putting one on mine, but it couldn't hurt so now I'm thinking I want one on mine! What are you going to mainly use this truck for? What did you do to tune the carb by the way? I just want to know if I remember it correctly, hit it with a timing light and get that sucker burnin rubber. Sounds good, don't forget to change the oil and filter and put load on the engine (driving) to get it completely broken in. Gotta seat those rings and change the oil because of the micro like particles of metal from the new cam. Got r done!

I got a few more parts I need to get before I can drive it. And also insure it.
I meant transmission oil cooler lines. Sorry that I was not clear enough about that.
I am going to do my best to resist the urge to run it any more until I can drive it.
To tune the carb I hooked up my old school engine analyzer (has a tach function, besides being able to check things like dwell etc) Set my idle rpm at 750, then hooked up a vacuum gauge. I started with both idle mixture screws 1 and a half turns out. Then adjusted each screw each amount until the vacuum reading stopped climbing and the engine started to stumble. Then adjusted the screws back to the highest vacuum reading.
Socal...you are correct. Wow I did not realize my camera picked up the radio in the garage playing. It was not up that loud. Amy Lee is sooo hot.
Before that I was rocking out to White Zombie.

Just watched the video of your engine breakin. I think your dad said it best at the end of the video, " congradulations, youve got yourself a running motor"

Re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (Shes alive!) 5-25-2010
Not much of a update. I replaced the cowl lacing.
Pretty soon I will be back at it again. I need to pull the front cover and check the timing chain to make sure its not off a tooth or something because of where it likes the ignition timing to be.
Then I need a new radiator fan and oil lines for the C6.
Shifter stuff.

Well I tried to fire her back up over the weekend. I need to get a battery and then re-prime the carb.
Just things have been busy for me and I have not had time to work on my truck. I got the money for parts but now I lack time.
When I had time I lacked the money. Funny how that works.

Good work all around. I like the way your engine looks. I hope it performs even better than it looks

Re: My 72 Sport Custom F100 (Shes alive!) 10-21-2010
My truck has sat for about 20 months now. I pulled it back onto the driveway yesterday. Going to try to make some progress.
Have to replace two freeze plugs in the block that came out last winter. Ive decided I want a proper truck C6 and not the car one. A rear sump pan on the 460 would be nice too. I never did bleed the brakes so I wonder what kind of shape the wheel cylinders are in.
