Need tips on 351W swap

Post by Vic »

Hi everyone.
I have some one building me a 351W for my 67 F100 (2WD). Heiasked me to purchace the oil pan and he suggested I get an extra capacity pan. I ve searched the web for pans but i have some questions.
My first question is...will a stock front sump clear the crossmember? Secondly, If I get a front supm t- pan will it hit the cross member?
Lastly, i could get a rear sump pan, but I don know if that will interfere with the steering. Help from anyone who has done this swap or has pictures would be appreciated. Vic

I have a 351W in my 68. The front sump pan will clear but changing the oil is a drag. The drain plug will dump oil all over the front crossmember. The drag link is lower than the cross member on my 68. This one will work to. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MIL-30730/

I am running the 4 speed toploader with the short car style bellhousing. No issue other than some alignment issues with the clutch linkage. Easy to fix if I wern't so lazy.

Nope but you'll need engine perches from a 302 truck. :)

my driveshaft is really really close to needing a few more inches in mine. what they did was to move the carrier bearing mounting location on my lwb 67. and the shaft still doesnt seem quite long enough for my comfort. but it does work. oh and my 67 with the 351w is using the fe mounts in the rear position. not the forward postion . so watch your driveshaft length. yo umay need a slightly longer one.
