Today I did the port work. I also started cleaning up the rocker arms and valves.

I went to the local auto parts store and got some valve grinding compound and a valve lapping tool. Tomarrow after I have all the valves cleaned up I will lap the valves and seats.

After that I will do a good cleaning on the cylinder head with Purple Power and a bunch of brushes. Then its time to paint and reassemble.

Got a lot done here the past few days.

The other head is all together and painted. Lapped valves and seats.

All the rocker arms are cleaned up.

Today I repainted the block, and painted the other cylinder head.

Also installed just the cam shaft. Crank shaft is also in.

Sand blasted and painted the power brake booster brackets, and alternator brackets.

The to do list as it stands...
Install pistons
Install oil pump and pickup
Install heads
Install lifters
Install push rods.
Install timing set.
Install front cover
Install intake

Transmission related...
Install appropriate kickdown and shift levers.
Then install in truck.

Yet to buy but needed...
kickdown and shift levers.
Raduator
Alternator
Belts and hoses.
Oil lines for transmission
Inch/lb torque wrench.
Push rods.
Water pump
Fuel pump
Spark plugs and wires.
Mufflers, pipe.
Engine lifting plate.
Oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid. Oil, air, fuel and transmission fluid filters.

Brake distribution block.

I put the oil pan and front cover on just to mask the over spray. The oil pan needs repainted and the front cover still needs to be cleaned up and painted.

Lookin good! What did you clean those rockers with? Those suckers look new.

Purple Power and some scrub brushes. You can get it at Lowes or Advance auto parts.

Today I got the pistons back in. Also got the oil pump and pickup installed. Tho I found out my pickup is a little "high"

You've been busy. Make sure to use assembly lube on the rocker fulcrums. :thup:

Started with the oil pan. My first move was to sand blast all the paint off. It was flaking in a few places.

Painted the oil pan. Then mounted the new brackets for the brake booster. Went to mount the booster then found out that I need to change out the metal backing plate on the firewall or flip it around.

Also about broke my hand trying to tighten the bolts that hold the brackets on. Because of the shape of the brackets you can not get a socket wrench on the top two bolts. So you have to use a combination wrench. The firewall braces on either side make it interesting. More so the top left bolt. Had the open end of the wrench on it at almost a 45 degree angle. Thats how I almost broke my hand. The lip on the cowl hurts when you smack it.


Going out to Lowes tomorrow to get a 12 pt wrench.

Looking good man. :thup: I think I'm about one week behind you (stage wise in build). :(
That 460 you're building will be sweet, with lots of power to spare!

Thanks. Its going to slow down for a while tho. Few more parts I need before I can get to the point I can set everything in the truck.

Im still hoping for 300-350 hp and 500+ ft-lbs of torque. I wish I could afford a engine dyno session to curb my curiosity. 8)

Got the brake booster and master cylinder in.
Just need to get a fitting for one of the lines and another brake distribution block, and install the front brake line that feeds the passenger wheel.

Then I get to bleed it all. Oh joy.

So yesterday I tried to finish out the brake system on the truck. Got the master cylinder bench bled, and then everything hooked up and proceeded to bleed the brakes. Got the right rear done, and moved on to the left rear and realized that wheel cylinder is leaking. Its not leaking from the fitting or the bleeder valve. I guess I got a faulty cylinder?

I also went down to Summit and got a different oil pump pickup, push rods, isky rev lube, and gaskasinch.

I got the old pickup out of the old pump. I did it by cutting a series of slits in the pump body around where the pickup tube went in. I then was able to wiggle the pickup around, but not much. So I gave it a shot of PB blaster.

Today I installed the timing set, oil pan. I also bolted the water pump to the timing cover.
