Cant wait to see pics of it in the truck. Too bad were not closer...me you and Ryan all could have a "day at the races" and go see what our bumps would run in the 1/4 mile. Should have my 460 in soon.

Good evening Tim and Ryan, thanks for replying!
Before I process and post today's photos I've been working on the additional engine build photos Tom gave me--he took some great ones!
Tim and Ryan, thanks for your excellent replies!

I'm looking forward to that also! Finally an engine I can idle and rev without the fear that it's eating itself alive.OldRedFord wrote:Cant wait to see pics of it in the truck.
That is a fantastic idea! I've never been to a race track before, so that would be a great adventure for me.OldRedFord wrote:Too bad were not closer...me you and Ryan all could have a "day at the races" and go see what our bumps would run in the 1/4 mile. Should have my 460 in soon.
Sure did!!! Thank you so much Ryan!1971ford wrote:Hey Robroy, did ya get my email with the other photos? Just making sure it went through

Good evening!
Today Tom handed me the rest of the photos he took during the build. Some of these are similar to the photos I already posted except for the use of a flash (or lack thereof), but I wanted to include them all to be complete!
You can click on any of these to see the full resolution and higher quality editions (with less JPEG compression):
Look at the beautifully machined surface and the new inside of the exhaust port!
The flash Tom used in this version of the photo shows some porting work.
This non-flash photo shows the paint color pretty accurately. It turned out perfect!
The pistons are looking good!
More porting work photos:
Looks pretty clean, doesn't it!
This two photos are nearly the same, just with and without the flash.
Doesn't this look pristine!? Also, what do y'all think of the minor surface defect between the top valves--is that nothing to be concerned about?
The intake manifold!
Here's another one that shows the color very well. That's the exact shade of yellow I was looking for!
Thanks very much for reading, and I'll post today's photos tomorrow!

I cannot wait, sounds like a "weekend thrash" is in order and #50 should be on the road by Monday afternoon! (where is the burnout smilie?)

Me?
I've never done any of my vehicles that way on pavement.
Maybe it's because I've never owned any that "could"? LOL :)

Re: 390FE (406ci) for #50, built by Tom Lucas at FE Specialties.
Good morning Robert, ToughOldFord, and Alvin, thanks for replying!
I think it will take me a week or two to get it back to the assembly stage I had it in back in early November, before all the major new fun started!
For one thing, Tom recommended that I get my flywheel and pressure plate balanced, even if they're brand new. So unless new information comes my way that this is absolutely unnecessary, that I plan to do! What do y'all think--do you think a brand new Centerforce pressure plate, clutch and flywheel should be balanced?
I took a few photos on the way there--I believe these were all taken on Highway 680. This is how California looks at the moment!
It looks and smells like Spring already.
Here's the trusty cradle driving to work!
An oddity.
Look at this neat old car for sale!
Robert, ToughOldFord, and Alvin, thanks again for your excellent replies! Engine photos coming next!
Robroy
That's a great idea that I hadn't considered! I'm sure the assembly will go much more smoothly and quickly than it did the first time around. Not to mention that I have a clean garage with a smooth concrete floor to work in now!DuckRyder wrote:

Good question! I didn't think to ask it yesterday, but I'll include it in a follow-up list of questions in an e-mail to Tom.ToughOldFord wrote:But why the Fram filter?????

I know what you mean Alvin! I've never done a "burn out" either, that I can remember. At least not one that lasted more than a second, and even then it was on wet pavement.Alvin in AZ wrote:Me?

Good day!
Here are a couple photos I took before the live run demonstration! Ryan also took some great photos of this setup after the demonstration, and his turned out better (Ryan's a real photographer!)--I'll be sure to post them after the live run video (I'm trying to keep this as chronological as possible)!
Note the Shelby Cobra in the background--I'll post more photos of that later on today!
Coming next is the live run video!

Good afternoon!
Here is the Yellow Jacket's live run video!
I encoded the video using both WMV and H.264 formats. The WMV video is relatively low quality and will play on almost any computer. The H.264 video is high quality, yet requires brand new video playing software and a fast computer to work.

Thanks for all the superb advice and ongoing interest!

'Afternoon!
Thanks very much to Ryan for taking these quality photos! As always, you can click on any of them for the full-sized versions:
This is probably my favorite composition out of all the photos from the entire day.
I've forgotten the gentleman's name who came to help Tom yesterday. He owns an auto repair shop in the neighborhood and has been working with Tom since 2001. He said that he's always been a Chevy fan, but was converted after a ride in Tom's Mustang!
Tom had momentarily forgotten that I brought my own engine cradle, so he began hooking up a nice steel one.
Here I am with the Yellow Jacket, the infamous windage tray, and the bent crankshaft!
70_F100, thank you again for helping me learn how to tie a knot! I tied the engine down securely with Taut Line Hitch knots, which worked very nicely. That's an amazingly simple and effective knot, and it's so easy to adjust and untie!
Ryan, thank you for taking these fantastic photos!
