I don't know how long it was in the truck before I got it.
I've owned it since 2005.
4 years, 7 months and counting!!

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

Re: brakelight switch
In my truck they would last about 6-8 months and then start sticking in the on position...in the morning dead battery.

Re: brakelight switch
I've seen that a lot of times with manual brakes. The pedal doesn't always return to the full up position. This is especially true once the master cylinder gets a couple of years on it.
With power brakes, it seems the booster pushrod is more likely to return to the same position each time, with a more solid "top" for the brake pedal, resulting in a better adjustment of the switch.

Re: brakelight switch
I have sticking brake lights on my 69. The problem is with dry sticky pedal pivots. Occasionally I have to pull the manual brake pedal up with the top of my foot. (I have done a full brake job with totally new hydrualics)
What it needs is to have the clutch and brake pedals removed, pivots cleaned and lubricated and maybe repalce the nylon bushings.
Too much trouble for now, maybe next week . . . . .
As for your hydrualic switch they were the auto industry standard from the 1930s all the way up to mid 60s (Ford passenger cars last used hydrualic switches in 1964)
The problem is that for whatever reason (age, design, new brake fluid?) they commonly fail and you lose your brake lights.
The guys who have 50s cars commonly mount a new style mechanical switch and then wire it so that it LOOKS like they still are using the hydrualic version. 100% reliable.
