an electrical supply place. they may only sell to professionals though. just tell them your story. if they wont sell to you. dump something off of the couter when you walk out the door. no really. tell them you are just getting started int he business and do have your self setup yet. but need to get the wire now so you can get your tax numebr and licence setup. then go someplace else when they say no we wont sell to you.

Robroy, try Waytek Wire http://order.waytekwire.com/CGI-BIN/LAN ... 72+M37+ENG

They sell high-quality wire in lots of colors, and will even custom print on the insulation. :woohoo:

They are a bit pricey, but well worth the cost if you're trying to keep things mostly original.

Hey Fordman and 70_F100, thanks for replying!

70_F100, thanks for the wiring suggestion. I checked that place it and it looks pretty good!

The specific URL you posted isn't working for me, but I looked at the Waytek's main site. I found some 16 gauge "marine wire" that looked pretty good!

They sell it in 100 foot rolls for $14. I'll have LOTS of wire left over if I go this route!

Thanks again Fordman and 70_F100!

Robroy, I think you'd be just as well off with one of the automotive wires instead of the marine. They are actually designed for two different applications and meet different standards.

The automotive wires meet SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) specs, which include resistance to oils, solvents, gasoline, etc. The cross-link wire is probably the best. That wire has a cross-linked polymer insulation that is stronger and more cut-resistant than the traditional materials used for wiring insulation.

The marine wire meets UL, Coast Guard and DOT specs, and is not necessarily suitable for all automotive applications.

The biggest difference is that the marine wire has a tin plating over the copper, which is really not necessary in automotive applications.

I'm an engineer for a company that manufactures automotive connectors for all of the OEM's. We have an electroplating operation in one of the facilities I'm responsible for, and we're not doing NEARLY as much tin plating as we used to do. In my other facility, we do stamping, and most of the products we stamp are copper or brass, plated with nickel, gold or silver. We also stamp some of the connectors from stainless steel.

Just my :2cents: , for whatever it's worth.
